Installation of the desktop art stuff
for KDE 3.3 ... KDE 3.5


If you were using the archives with all the art stuff, download and unpack the archiv (tar -xjf xxxxx.tar.bz2) and run the script install.sh. The points "1.Download" and "3.Add the content" in the following descriptions are obsolent in this case.

Desktop theme installation:

The KDE theme manager sets the look of the desktop (backgrounds, colors), the background of KFM, the background of the panel and the sound schema. The values, images and sound samples are packed in a theme file (*.kth).

The type of the window decoration and the icon set are selected too, but the icon set and the window decoration has to be installed befor.

  1. Download the theme file.
  2. Start the theme manager: "Control center -> Look and Feel -> Themes"
  3. Add the new theme file xxxxx.kth
  4. Choose the new theme in the list and click "Apply"

Install the IceWM decoration

The theme manager sets only the type IceWM for the window decoration. You have to select the correct version of the IceWM deco by self. Various versions of the IceWM deco may be very different!

  1. Download the content file.
  2. Unpack the archiv
  3. Add the new theme directory to your IceWM themes by copy it to ~/.kde/share/apps/kwin/icewm-themes
  4. Start the decoration manager: "Control center -> Look and Feel -> Decoration"
  5. Select the window decoration "IceWM"
  6. Switch to the tab "Configuration" and choose one of the installed IceWM-decorations.
  7. Click "Apply"

Install an icon set

An icon set contains a replacement for more or less default icons. It has to be installed befor choosing a desktop theme, which is using the icon set, because the desktop theme file contains only a link to the icons set, not the hole content.

  1. Download the icon set.
  2. Start the icon manager: "Control center -> Look and Feel -> Icons"
  3. Add the theme file xxxxx.tgz
  4. Choose the icon set in the list and click "Apply"

Install the color schema for konsole

The look and feel of the Konsole may be set by a color schema. You may use 2 different color schemes, one for the program Konsole and one for the plug-in Konsole-Part, which is used by many applications.

  1. Download and unpack the content file.
  2. Unpack the archiv.
  3. Copy the color schema files (*.schema) to ~/.kde/share/apps/konsole and the background images used by the schemes to ~/.kde/share/wallpapers.
  4. Start the konsole and select the menu point "Settings -> Color schema -> xxxxx".
  5. Save the setting.
  6. Open the terminal emulation in KFM and select the menu point "Settings -> Color schema -> xxxxx_part".
  7. Save the setting.

Install the splash screen

The look and leel of the KDE-Splash-Screen may be set by themes like the dektop too.
  1. Download the content file.
  2. Start the splash screen manager: "Control center -> Look and Feel -> Splash Screen"
  3. Add the theme file xxxxx_splash.tgz
  4. Choose the splash screen theme in the list and click "Apply"
